7-Day Northern Xinjiang Tour with Kanas Lake

Proceed to Karamay today by about 6 hours' drive with a stopover at Dushanzi Grand Canyon on the way. With a height of 200 meters and a bottom width of 400 meters, the canyon seems like being cut by a knife. The gullies between the sides of the canyon formed by the alluviation of snow-waters and rain-waters will deepen your impression of this hidden attraction. After arrival in Karamay City, settle in your hotel and have a rest.

This morning you will set out to the Wind City of Wuerhe, which is more popularly known as "the Ghost City". It is a typical Yadan landform and was ranked first in the "Three Most Beautiful Yadans in China" by China National Geographic. Placing yourself here, you will be shocked by the bizarre rocks inside the city along with a ghostly howl. Later on, head to Burqin County for the night. After a short break in your hotel, walk out to explore the famous Hedi Night Market. Closing to the Burqin River and offering all kinds of tasty food, this market is one of the most favorite places to relax after the sunset.

Hugged by the lush forest and vast mountain grassland, Kanas Lake is a scenic win hidden in the valley of the Altai Mountains. The peaceful environment, the colors of the lake, and the legend of the Kanas Lake Monster give this fairyland an air of mystery. Before reaching the lake, you will pass through three scenic spots along the Kanas River, which are Wolong Bay, Moon Bay, and Goddess Bay. This evening you will overnight at Hemu Village.

Hemu Village is a small village inhabited by ethnic people of Kazakhs and Tuvars, who still live a simple, ancient lifestyle by grazing animals and hunting. Walking to a top platform in the early morning, you will have a chance to catch a stunning sunrise view over the countryside. You may see smoke curling up from original wooden houses, herds of cattle and sheep are scattered over the vast grassland, the clean stream warbles over its rocky bed, and surrounding birch forests stretch to the mountains. After that, return to Burqin County for the night and make a stopover at the Rainbow Beach, another Yadan landform beside the Irtysh River.

Today will be a long journey on the road. It will take about 8.5 hours' drive from Burqin County to Urumqi. But don't worry, the breathtaking scenery along the way is very spectacular and you can stop anywhere to break and shoot some landscape photographs. Upon arrival in Urumqi, settle in your hotel and have a good rest.
